History

  • 1979 A small prayer group (volunteers) started meeting in Wolverley
  • 1980 KEMP House Trust formed
  • 1981 KEMP registered with the Charity Commissioners
  • 1987 Macmillan nurses are appointed at KEMP. Our volunteers are allowed to work with local families
  • 1990 KEMP Hospice moves to Sutton Park Road. First nurse manager is appointed
  • 1992 KEMP Hospice opens three days a week
  • 1994 KEMP opens four days per week, Day Care leader appointed
  • 1996 Third KEMP shop is opened. KEMP registered as a nursing home
  • 2001 KEMP's satellite unit at Tenbury Wells opened one day a week
  • 2002 Joint posts within the PCT in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy commenced
  • 2003 KEMP purchases Mason Road site and begins work to convert it to a Hospice
  • 2005 New KEMP Hospice opened by Sir Digby Jones
  • 2006 Consultant moves to the Hospice along with the community Macmillan team as consultant in Palliative Medicine
  • 2006 Out-patient services offered
  • 2006 HRH The Duke of Gloucester opens the Sanctuary Garden
