KEMP’s first women’s midnight moonlight walk raises £28,000
A MIDNIGHT walk in aid of Kemp Hospice has been hailed a “fantastic success” by organisers.
About £28,000 has been raised in sponsorship so far, with more expected before the final total is calculated.
The event took place at the Forestry Commission’s visitor centre in Callow Hill, with 341 women taking part at the stroke of midnight on Saturday night. Some participants were in fancy dress and all others wore Kemp Hospice T-shirts.
Beth Jackson, hospice fund-raiser, said: “It was absolutely brilliant. Considering it was our first attempt at this, I think the results have been a fantastic success.
“Last week we were expecting 300 to take part, so we’re delighted with how it went.”
She added: “The atmosphere was really friendly. It was a fun and different night out. Even a bit of rain failed to dampen our spirits.
“Everybody was proud to be part of the occasion. Women were there for a variety of reasons. Some were remembering a loved one, while others were just out to have a good night.”
She confirmed there were now plans to hold the event every year, saying: “It will definitely become a regular night out. We want to increase the numbers for next year and make it even bigger and better.”
Organisers are now encouraging all participants to collect their sponsorship money and submit it as soon as possible.
