Wyre Forest Charity On The Hunt For Golden Volunteers

24th December 2018

Wyre Forest charity KEMP Hospice are on the lookout for a golden number of people to take up volunteering in the new year, as they look to boost the number of people helping in their charity shops and donation centre in their 50th anniversary year.

KEMP Hospice operate seven charity shops across the region including a furniture store and a donation centre on Lisle Avenue in Kidderminster, as well an online eBay store and a ‘by appointment’ bridal shop.

Each week tons of pre-loved clothing, toys, furniture and miscellaneous items are donated to the charity which are sorted by hand and delivered to their shops in Bewdley, Stourport and Kidderminster with items ranging from books, DVDs, designer clothes, even items such as rare albums. The charity receives so many donated items that this year they are hoping to encourage 50 people to come forward to offer a helping hand by becoming one of their new Gold Star Volunteers.

Head of Retail at KEMP is Lynne Haines: “Our volunteers are the life-blood of KEMP Hospice and without the small army of people who donate their time and expertise to us I don’t know what we would do. It takes a very special kind of person to volunteer, someone that has a sense of wanting to do some good for their community or someone who has retired and wants to ‘give back’ in their spare time. Volunteering in our KEMP Shops and in our donation centre is a great way for people to get out and meet new people, to carry out vital work for the charity and it’s also a brilliant way for people to gain some retail experience if they’re looking to get back into work. It could be sorting out clothes, posting items on our eBay shop, working in the shops or delivering sorted items to all of our stores. Volunteering is a great thing to do and over this year, which is our 50th anniversary year, I would love to find fifty people, or more that could spare time to help out a brilliant local charity. It really is a golden opportunity!”

  • KEMP Shop & KEMP Furniture - Tan Lane, Stourport-on-Severn

It costs around £1.5million a year to provide their services free-of-charge to people of the Wyre Forest with KEMP Retail shops contributing a vital source of income for the charity.
