Child & Adolescent Counsellor

Biography

WHAT DO YOU DO AT KEMP?

I am a Child and Adolescent Counsellor and part of the KEMP for Kids team.  I support children and young people at  a very vulnerable time in their young lives : pre and/or post bereavment.  I offer them a safe place to explore their feelings and try to normalise those feelings with them as well.  I go into schools or meet with children one to one at KEMP.

I also talk with their parents and help them talk to their children about very difficult matters and I help organise our annual residential weekend and reunions + group work.

WHY DID YOU START WORKING / VOLUNTEERING AT KEMP?

I came to KEMP in January 2013.   I had already volunteered with another (now sadly closed) child bereavement support charity which I really enjoyed.  I saw how important it was to help some children through their grief so that it did not impact negatively on their mental, emotional and educational life.

KEMP for Kids is tailored to meet the needs of all our young clients and this is particularly important given the dearth of mental health services for young people.

I am particularly interested in promoting the mental health of children and young people; supporting them during such a difficult and vulnerable time is my contribution.

WHY DO YOU THINK KEMP IS SPECIAL?

KEMP is special because it is at the heart of its community.  It is small (bijou), friendly and accessible.

WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF WORKING AT KEMP?

I love working with children and especially teenagers.  They teach me something new every day (Fortnite anyone?).
They show amazing resilience and courage.

WHAT DIFFERENCE DO YOU THINK KEMP MAKES TO THE COMMUNITY OF THE WYRE FOREST?

KEMP is there when people of the Wyre Forest need it the most.  It offers hope, support and guidance at the most difficult of times; it is a place to turn to.
