Dean Roberts-Lowe

PR & Communications Officer

Biography

WHAT DO YOU DO AT KEMP?

I look after Communications for KEMP Hospice which includes press relations, marketing and also keeping a beady eye on this website and how/where the name of KEMP Hospice appears across the Wyre Forest district and beyond.

I also eat waaaay too many bags of Haribo!

WHY DID YOU START WORKING / VOLUNTEERING AT KEMP?

I had worked in Broadcasting for over 21 years (both in Commercial radio and also at the BBC) and I wanted to work somewhere that I knew was making a real difference to people's lives. When I heard about KEMP Hospice, and later when I came to visit for the first time, I knew I had found that perfect place.

WHY DO YOU THINK KEMP IS SPECIAL?

KEMP isn't special...it's amazing, it's unique, it's phenomenal. The care given is incredible and I've seen how much of a difference it makes to people who need to use the services of our Day Hospice and also to the people who need the help and support of our Family Support Team. I've seen people who are so desperately upset through bereavement come back to the Hospice, or take part in fundraising events, with a big smile on their face; I've seen family members who say that we are giving their loved ones the best care (medically, physically and mentally) and also giving them the support they need to allow them to be a 'loved one' rather than a carer.

Everyone who works at KEMP and with KEMP are so compassionate and work so hard. It's like a big family, with everyone looking out for one another and making sure that if things become too tough (and trust me, it can be upsetting sometimes) that you have someone to look out for you and support you.

WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF WORKING AT KEMP?

A sense of achievement and purpose!

WHAT DIFFERENCE DO YOU THINK KEMP MAKES TO THE COMMUNITY OF THE WYRE FOREST?

KEMP touches so many people's lives. You never 'want' to need the services of a hospice like KEMP but the Wyre Forest community knows that KEMP is there for them, whoever they are and whatever they are going through. Our KEMP for Kids team; our KEMP for Carers team; our Day Hospice nurses, volunteers and support workers; the Family Support team; everyone at our KEMP shops; our tireless Fundraising team - they all go the extra mile to ensure that the Wyre Forest district has a service like KEMP 'should' they ever need us.
