Providing safe spaces and activities for children and young people is an important part of KEMP’s Family Support & Bereavement Service. That’s why once again the team held a Memory Day for several children and young people on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th April 2023
Bereavement support for children and young people
The KEMP Memory Days give children and young people who are experiencing grief and loss, a chance to get together in small groups and take part in activities which will normalise their grief, help them discover coping strategies and build a support network of others who are experiencing similar circumstances.
The first day was focused for young people and teenagers, with a variety of activities to help support their self-care and give them grounding techniques to help cope with their grief. Activities included group support, creative activities, and an emotions wall, giving them an outlet to release any anger or frustrations in a safe environment.

Day two was specifically focused for children aged 6 -10 who are currently receiving counselling support at KEMP Hospice. They were invited to The Melting Pot in Bewdley to take part in activities which included pottery painting.
Thanks to the team at The Melting Pot, who offered exclusive access to their facility, the children were offered a safe space, a comfortable environment, and therapeutic activities to take part in under the guidance of KEMP Counsellors.
The importance of kemp memory days
KEMP Counsellors arrange the Memory Days for children and young people who access KEMP Bereavement Services. The events allow them to spend time with their peers who are also experiencing loss, building confidence and self-esteem, and giving them new and special memories.
