Our patients inspire us every day, they are the reason we do what we do at KEMP Hospice. But when we hear about the inspirational ways supporters of KEMP Hospice help fundraise and raise awareness of our care and support services, we are often left speechless.
This happened to us recently when supporter Shaun Marshall told us about his latest epic endeavours to raise funds for KEMP Hospice. Shaun is a long-time supporter of KEMP with an overwhelming fundraising total so far of just under £11,000!

Fundraising for KEMP Hospice
His fundraising efforts began back in 2012 when completing his first Ironman event and have continued ever since. When we caught up with Shaun recently, he said “KEMP Hospice is an important part of the Wyre Forest community. I know so many people who have been touched by KEMP, whether that’s accessing their services or taking part in their community fundraising events like the Santa Fun Run with friends and family”.
When asked about his challenges, former Royal Marine Shaun told us “Each time I complete a challenge, I try to push myself more and more. Whether that’s completing in an Ironman event, a 100-mile run or a 24-hour Santa Fun Run. No matter how hard I try and push myself, it’s in the forefront of my mind that there’s always someone worse off than you, so I want to do what I can to help those people who need KEMP Hospice support services”.
Celebrating a special year by supporting KEMP Hospice
Celebrating his 50th Birthday year, Shaun decided he wanted to push himself even further by completing three awe-inspiring challenges. Shaun said “The first is the Marathon des Sables, something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’ll also be completing a Snowdon 24 race which is 24 hours walking up and down the Llanberis Pass as many times as possible, and finishing with an Ironman in Wales. That will involve a 2.4mile sea swim, a 112m bike ride and 26.2m run. After that, I think it’ll be time to relax and enjoy my birthday!”
The Marathon des Sables is regarded as the toughest foot race on earth. The six-day 251km ultra marathon will see Shaun race across the Sahara Desert, in temperatures that can reach over 50 degrees Celsius, with the longest single stage 91km long. It’s a self-sufficient event where he’ll carry his own kit, food and water with rest periods spent sleeping in tents. When we asked Shaun why he chose that particular challenge, he simply said, “It’s there to be done”.
Shaun has done and continues to do such amazing things for KEMP Hospice, that offering a simple thank you never quite feels enough but, nevertheless, we are doing just that. Thank you, Shaun, from all of us, for the commitment and dedication you have shown to supporting KEMP Hospice.
