When we launched our Open Gardens scheme earlier this year, Judy and Tim from Kidderminster contacted us straight away. Having previously taken part in such a scheme at a previous property, they were keen to support KEMP in their new home.
Open garden to share the transformation
Both passionate gardeners, the couple have transformed their current garden into a peaceful haven, filled with colourful blossoms and touches of culture inspired by their travels to far flung places.
Moai head sculptures peep out from arrays of shrubbery, whilst the main theme is well and truly inspired by Japanese heritage. Stone Japanese Pagoda’s pepper the flower beds, a small pond stands at the base of an Oriental bridge and Cherry Plum Trees add flashes of colour. Indeed, the plum trees, which were fixtures from the previous owners, gave the couple the inspiration to call their house “Sakura”.

Showing support for KEMP Hospice
Judy and Tim opened their garden on a hot day in July and raised funds by charging a small entry fee, selling refreshments – including the most amazing Lemon Drizzle cake!- and selling handmade wooden items.
Neighbours, friends and family popped by to show their support and enjoy the beautiful setting.
“It was lovely to meet so many of our neighbours,” said Judy, “It was a real opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and there was such a lovely community feel throughout the day.”
In total the couple raised an incredible £303.05 which will help to make a massive difference to our patients and their families.
Could you open your garden for KEMP Hospice?
If you would like to get in your garden and hold an open garden event for KEMP, we have plenty of ideas to get you started. Judy and Tim chose to open their garden to the public, but you could also simply invite family and friends round for a BBQ and ask each person for a donation, or perhaps you could challenge friends and colleagues to a Sunflower growing competition.
Whatever you choose to do, the funds that you raise will ensure that KEMP Hospice is able to continue to provide support to patients, families and carers who are dealing with life limiting illness and bereavement.
