KEMP for Kids
KEMP Hospice provides bereavement support to children from the age of 5, young people and their families via KEMP for Kids.
The death of someone close is likely to be one of the most distressing experiences anyone has to face.
The early days following the death can be bewildering and difficult and it can be a very confusing time with mixed feelings, thoughts and emotions. This can be very difficult for grown-ups...even harder for children.
"A massive thank you to KEMP for Kids, you helped my daughter immensely with caring, guidance and support after the passing of a close family friend. I can't thank you enough"
KEMP for Kids offers support to children and young people who have somebody close to them with a life-limiting illness or somebody close to them who has died. KEMP for Kids is tailored to the wishes and needs of Children, Young People and their Families.
KEMP for Kids’ one to one therapeutic work enables children to explore their experiences and emotions. This will include talking, arts based and creative activities, memory activities including memory boxes and memory jars, or a combination of all of these. KEMP for Kids offer this support at home, at school and also at the hospice.
As well as counselling and therapeutic work KEMP for Kids also carry out special children-based activities including residential weekends (KEMP for Kids Camp) and very special memorial events such as our annual Lantern Walk.
Every first Saturday in December is a special time for KEMP Hospice, this is when we hold two of our most important events: our Light up a Life service of remembrance at Kidderminster Town Hall and also our KEMP for Kids Lantern Walk.
For the Lantern Walk the KEMP for Kids team transform the woodland of the Wyre Forest into a magical place for all of the children, and their families, that have been supported by KEMP through bereavement.
It is a free walk through the Wyre Forest, which is especially lit up for the evening to create a magical glow, and everyone comes together for a special moment of remembrance in the centre of the forest to remember their loved-ones.
Every child then gets to meet Santa Claus, and it's a really special evening of togetherness and a wonderful way for the children to remember their someone special who is no longer with us
KEMP for Kids Camp
Every year our KEMP for Kids team, alongside KEMP staff and volunteers, put together a wonderful outdoor weekend for some of the children that have been supported by KEMP.
The weekend is an opportunity to do a mixture of outdoor challenges that help to build confidence and self-esteem alongide therapeutic activities in small groups.
The KEMP for Kids Camp helps the children to tell their stories, to explore their feelings and to capture special memories.
The camp is a very special part of the year for the team and is a highlight of their working calendar.
Time is freely given by all to ensure that the children have the best possible experience and also to give them the chance to express themselves, to share, and to make new friends too.
