Dying Matters Awareness Week (6–12 May 2025) is a national campaign that encourages all of us to talk more openly about dying, death and grief.
At KEMP we know just how powerful these conversations can be. As a hospice charity, we support people who are living with a life-limiting illness every day – and we see how honest, thoughtful dialogue helps families prepare and connect.
What Is Dying Matters Awareness Week?
Led by Hospice UK, Dying Matters Awareness Week is a chance to challenge the stigma around death and dying. During this week, our Day Hospice Care Services Team will hold discussions with patients around Dying Matters, with a particular focus on ‘My Wishes’, a document from Herefordshire & Worcestershire Integrated Care System.
‘My Wishes’ allows those living with a life-limiting condition across Herefordshire & Worcestershire, to document what matters most, the important things they would like to communicate should a time arise where they can no longer communicate themselves.
Why These Conversations Matter
Too often, we avoid the subject of dying because it feels uncomfortable or frightening. But when we don’t talk about it, we miss the opportunity to make our wishes known, support each other, and find a sense of control and comfort.
Dying Matters Awareness Week gives an opportunity for focused conversations about end-of-life care, planning, bereavement, and everything in between.

It’s not always easy to talk about death – but it’s one of the most important conversations we can have.
Let’s Make Dying Matter
This Dying Matters Awareness Week, we invite you to start a conversation. Whether it’s with a friend, a family member, or a healthcare professional – just talking is a powerful step.
