What is KEMP?

Based in the heart of the Wyre Forest, KEMP Hospice provides a wide range of services, free of charge, to the people of Wyre Forest. We support individuals, families and carers experiencing life limiting conditions and through bereavement.

Life limiting conditions include heart disease, lung disease, kidney or liver failure, cancer, Motor Neurone Disease and, often, a combination of conditions which are limiting life expectancy.

In short, we ARE the Wyre Forest Hospice

IN BRIEF

KEMP Hospice was created 50 years ago, born from a need to support and care for local people.

Five decades on and we continue to support the people of the Wyre Forest who, more than ever, need care and support in difficult times.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We run a Day Hospice at our home on Mason Road in Kidderminster where we provide care for up to 14 patients each day. Our Day hospice is a nurse led unit focused on a patient’s needs while they live at home with life-limiting illness: this means that the nurses liaise with GPs, District Nurses and others supporting patients at home.

KEMP FACT: THE HOSPICE STARTED LIFE AS AN IDEA BY A SMALL COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER GROUP AFTER A PRAYER MEETING IN WOLVERLEY IN 1969.

We visit people in their own home, supporting the most vulnerable, and their carers and loved ones, towards the end of life.

Privacy and dignity are core elements of our services which have a patient-centred approach: encouraging individuals to choose the type of care and support they wish to receive.

A patient’s well-being is monitored each visit and they're encouraged towards self-help, regaining confidence and maintaining independence.

Our Day Hospice patients can access Physiotherapy, Occupational & Complementary therapy plus Creative & Horticultural Therapy.

We have volunteers and experts in a number of creative areas that regularly come in to offer classes on all manner of things, such as painting, sculpting, gardening, even jewellery making.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

Our Family Support Team provides face-to-face, telephone and group counselling to children, young people and adults, as well as vital financial and welfare advice.

The death of someone close is likely to be one of the most distressing experiences anyone has to face. The early days following the death can be bewildering and difficult and it can be a very confusing time with mixed feelings, thoughts and emotions. Our Bereavement Hub can offer helpful, practical and emotional advice at this very difficult time, whilst offering information about how to contact local and National Support Services. We offer advice and guidance for adults and their family either face-to-face or over the telephone.

KEMP for Kids

We also provide bereavement support to children, young people and their families via KEMP for Kids, offering support to children and young people who have somebody close to them with a life-limiting illness or somebody close to them who has died. KEMP for Kids is tailored to the wishes and needs of Children, Young People and their Families.

KEMP for Kids’ therapeutic work enables children to explore their experiences and emotions. This will include talking, arts based and creative activities, memory activities including memory boxes and memory jars, or a combination of all of these. KEMP for Kids offer this support at home, at school and also at KEMP Hospice on Mason Road.

SUPPORT GROUPS

We also have a number of support groups that come together during the week through KEMP Hospice including:

Phoenix Friends — for people who have been bereaved.
Butterflies — for people dealing with isolation & loneliness.
PETALS — a group for parents experiencing trauma & losses.
The Breakfast Club — a monthly bereavement group for people who meet up at Kidderminster Golf Club for breakfast & to meet other people  in a similar situation.

THERE’S MORE TO KEMP THAN JUST A HOSPICE

We employ a team of more than 50 dedicated staff members and we also have 6 KEMP Hospice Retail charity shops across the Wyre Forest; based in Stourport, Kidderminster Town Centre, Bewdley & Spennells. We also have 2 furniture stores, a donation centre at Lisle Avenue in Kidderminster and an online retail store via eBay!

SUPPORT KEMP HOSPICE

At KEMP Hospice, our services are provided free of charge and it is only with the generosity of our local community that we can help individuals, families and carers across the Wyre Forest who need us.

Each year we need to raise £1.5million to provide all of our services and we simply cannot do that without the fantastic generosity and support of the wonderful people of the Wyre Forest!

REGULAR GIVING

A regular donation to KEMP Hospice provides funding that the Hospice can rely on. It supports our work and helps us to plan for the future and develop new services.

It’s easy to set up a monthly, quarterly or annual payment from your bank account & you can choose to give an amount that suits.

Also, signing up to Gift Aid means that we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give and it won't cost you any extra!

VOLUNTEER

We rely on volunteers in all areas of the work we do at KEMP Hospice and we have more than 300 volunteers, working in a variety of different roles.

Without the time and support that our volunteers give KEMP simply would not exist.

If you would like to join the #KEMPfamily as a volunteer call into any of our KEMP Hospice Retail shops, call the KEMP Hospice Volunteer Services on 01562 756000 or email: volunteering@kemphospice.org.uk
