We recently introduced a brand new walking group to provide companionship and peer support for people experiencing bereavement. Read more.
Grieving the loss of a loved one can feel isolating, but no one must face bereavement alone. Earlier this month, KEMP Hospice held its very first bereavement walking group at Bodenham Arboretum – and it proved to be a great success.
The group brought together a small number of KEMP clients who are currently, or who have recently received support from us, offering a safe, caring and supportive space to connect with others living with bereavement.
A Gentle Walk with Meaningful Support
Walking side by side can often make it easier to talk, listen, or simply be in the company of others who understand grief.
Our new walking group offers:
- A safe and welcoming space
- Light conversation – or quiet reflection
- Fresh air and gentle movement
- Support from others experiencing loss
The KEMP Bereavement Services Team were on hand to welcome attendees and help make initial introductions, creating a relaxed and supportive atmosphere from the outset. This helped participants feel more comfortable connecting with others who understand the experience of grief. The group is designed to offer companionship, shared understanding, and peer support for those living with bereavement.
The Benefits of Walking for Wellbeing
Spending time outdoors and taking gentle exercise can have a positive impact on mental wellbeing. Walking can help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, improve mood, encourage mindfulness, and provide an opportunity for connection with others.
For those experiencing grief, simply getting outside and sharing time with supportive people can feel like an important step forward.
Looking Ahead
The positive response from our first session highlighted just how valuable shared experiences and gentle connection can be during bereavement. We look forward to continuing the group and supporting more of our clients through these peaceful walks together.
KEMP Family Support & Bereavement Services are here for people across Wyre Forest who have experienced a bereavement in the last three years – with or without an existing connection to KEMP Hospice.
