KEMP Hospice Volunteer Honoured at Student Awards
KEMP People Team volunteer Sophie Jew has been honoured by the University of Worcester after winning the Connect Award at the ARC Programme celebrations.
The ARC Programme (Aspire, Reward, Connect) links Worcester Business School with local organisations. The scheme provides students with real-world experience through guest lectures, placements, mentoring, and site visits.
Recognising achievement, including volunteering at KEMP Hospice
Speaking at the ceremony, Sophie said:
“The ARC programme is a brilliant opportunity for students to engage and build connections with the local business community. I’m very grateful to the University and the Business School for the opportunity.”
Sophie currently volunteers with the KEMP Hospice People Team one day per week. She added:
“Winning the Connect ARC Award is a real honour and I am very grateful to be recognised for my achievements. Receiving it has given me a real confidence boost. It will motivate me going forward into my final year of studies.”
Supporting KEMP Hospice while gaining real-world experience
Kev Powell, People & Volunteer Coordinator at KEMP Hospice, said:
“For KEMP, we gain help from enthusiastic students like Sophie whose contribution assists us in delivering our services to our Wyre Forest communities. Sophie gains practical experience she would not get in the classroom. We hope this will help her secure paid employment when she completes her studies.”
Relationships with local education providers such as the University of Worcester offer a mutually beneficial opportunity, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and apply the theory they learn in real working environments.
