It’s been a right Royal party this week in Day Hospice! We’ve been going all out to celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation on Saturday.
After weeks of preparations, with decorations being drawn up, flowers being arranged and quiz questions researched, it was finally time for KEMP Hospice to enjoy the festivities!

Day hospice coronation celebrations
Having spent the last few weeks in Day Hospice preparing special decorations, we’ve been celebrating with patients by holding a Coronation Party. Each day began with a special presentation of the Royal Gardens, looking at some of the very special spaces, plants and scenery that can be found across the UK. We then had a very sweet treat, holding a tasting of honey from the Duchy of Cornwall.
After a short break, we got out thinking caps on with a very special ‘Charles Quiz’ where all the questions were about famous Charles’. Questions included:
- Who wrote the largely autobiographical novel ‘David Copperfield?
- Who is the New Yorker cartoonist and author of the Addams Family?
- Name the influential American saxophonist known as ‘Bird’

It was then time for lunch with a very special spread laid on by KEMP Chef Richard, including some of his famous cream scones and cakes, as well as edible versions of the Coronation emblem! Finally, we had a very special proms exercise routine to finish the day with a short exercise session with Kim.
Take a look at the video below to see some of the fantastic activities we’ve enjoyed, there’s music so play it with sound if you can:

Blakedown flower festival display
We’re also very excited to be supporting the Blakedown Church Coronation Flower Festival this weekend. Working with Janet, KEMP’s horticultural specialist, Day Hospice patients have been helping to prepare a beautiful display for the church.

The KEMP Hospice floral display is a part of the Blakedown Church Flower Festival which can be viewed from Saturday 6th to Monday 8th May with the Church open from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday and 10am to 4pm on Monday 8th May.
How KEMP day hospice coronation celebrations support our patients
The activities that have taken place in recognition of the Coronation help us to provide a happy hub for our patients. Our professional team provide support and ensure everyone has a chance to take part, giving patients a focus, and often a welcome distraction from their illness. It’s also great that an event such as the King’s Coronation gives us an opportunity to be involved with events such as the flower festival, giving our patients something they can share with the local community.
