Kidderminster based charity KEMP Hospice have welcomed the support of Worcestershire business leader Louise Hewett and other high profile businesses as they prepare for their final ‘Midnight Walk’ event in June, and they are calling on past participants to join them for one last time.
KEMP have held the 5 kilometre, women-only walk through the Wyre Forest annually since 2007 and, ahead of their 50th anniversary in 2019 will be holding the final event on Friday 15th June. Since it started, just over a decade ago, more than 3,000 women have attended the annual event raising almost £300,000 between them in registration and sponsorship. All of that money has gone towards KEMP Hospice, which provides free of charge care and support to people across the Wyre Forest with life limiting illnesses or dealing with bereavement.
Hewett Recruitment have entered a team for the event as part of their celebrations marking Louise’s 40 years in business. Hewett Recruitment unveiled their 40@40 Challenge earlier this year with plans to raise money for local charities over the next 18 months. The Hewett team have signed up to the KEMP Midnight Walk with nine female members of the Kidderminster branch taking part.
Louise Hewett explained: “It’s in our DNA, we like to get involved with the community and support local charities. We started our business in Kidderminster and strongly support the Hospice movement. KEMP is such an important organisation whose care supports so many of us in the local area.’’
Event Fundraiser at KEMP Hospice, Shelley Stanley said that the support of businesses locally is what makes the event so special: “Every year we see women of Worcestershire join us for a really magical night. It’s not just the fundraising, the entertainment or the walk itself, it’s the sense of being together and rallying for a common cause. All of our patients at KEMP’s Day Hospice tell us how much they appreciate the work of fundraisers. Events like these help us to provide health and care support to people, and their families, who are dealing with very serious illnesses. We’re so lucky that this year we have the support of local businesses putting in teams for the Midnight Walk like Hewett Recruitment, Engie, Westons Wills & Probate, Ye Olde Seven Stars, Bewdley Medical Centre and more. This year will be the final Midnight Walk event, ahead of our 50th anniversary in 2019 and this year we’re going out in style – we would love it if any of the wonderful Wyre Forest women who have taken part in previous walks would rejoin us for this last ‘hurrah’.”
This year’s KEMP Midnight Walk features an Adele tribute concert in the forest called ‘Hometown Glory’ featuring all of Adele’s biggest hits live, a forest disco, a Vintage Bar stocked with prosecco, gourmet food and even a glass of Pimms for every woman that completes the course.
It costs just £15 per person and you can register online at www.kemphospice.org.uk, by calling the events team on 01562 756066 or by filling in a registration form in any KEMP retail shop.
