KEMP Launch Festive Recycling Campaign

20th December 2018

Wyre Forest charity KEMP Hospice have launched their first ever real Christmas tree recycling campaign and are hoping that people across the Wyre Forest will support them in sprucing up their New Year fundraising efforts.

The Kidderminster based charity have teamed up with local company Rosie’s Ground Maintenance and Firewood to collect real trees from people’s homes across the district between January 11th-13th in return for a small donation to KEMP. The trees will then be taken to be shredded and those chippings will then either be sold in aid of the hospice or redistributed for community projects.

Head of Fundraising at KEMP Hospice, Cathy Sloan explained more about the campaign: “Everyone loves a real Christmas tree but once the festive period is over you’re faced with the really prickly problem about how to dispose of them. We want to take away that hassle for local people by letting us take them away for them! We’ve teamed up with Rosie’s Ground Maintenance and Firewood who will help collect and recycle the real trees for us and other local businesses have kindly volunteered their time to help us collect too. Not only will you help the environment by allowing us to recycle your old tree, but we may also be able to make additional funds from the sale of the chipped pine trees too. Every penny raised goes directly back into the work of KEMP Hospice. Your family's real Christmas tree this year may help out our patients’ families right here in the Wyre Forest next year...some of whom may be facing their last Christmas together.”

The campaign is the first fundraising venture of the New Year for the Wyre Forest’s hospice who celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2019. Cathy added that it is going to be an exciting year and they can’t wait to kick-start their golden anniversary by going green: “2019 is such an exciting time for us at KEMP as we celebrate a milestone in our history. KEMP was established five decades ago to help the local community and we really hope that our community support us from the start of the year. We’re really excited to be working alongside Rosie’s as well as De Beers Garden Centre, Bewdley Brewery and our KEMP Retail team who will be helping with collections. It’s our first ever Christmas tree recycling campaign and we really hope that people support us, and the environment. We’re asking for a minimum donation of £10 per real Christmas tree and that money will go directly towards the work of KEMP Hospice in caring and supporting people who are dealing with life-limiting illnesses and bereavement.”

Christmas tree collections will begin from 9am – 5pm on Friday 11th January until Sunday 13th January with trees collected during that period from the following postcodes:

Kidderminster - DY10 1, DY10 2, DY10 3, DY10 4, DY11 5, DY11 6, DY11 7
