Local Superman Takes On Record Breaking Santa Challenge For KEMP Hospice

12th November 2018

A Kidderminster extreme runner has set his sights on a new record-breaking challenge this December in a bid to raise money for local charity KEMP Hospice.

Shaun Marshall, who has already completed challenges such as a 100-mile marathon, has pledged to take part in KEMP’s annual charity Santa Fun Run this December however instead of running 10k in the quickest time, he plans to run the course non-stop for 24 hours.

Shaun has supported KEMP for many years and has taken part in triathlons, enduro-marathons and every year joins in with the charities much-loved Santa Fun Run event which takes place in Brinton’s Park. This year Shaun will wear his Santa Suit, and runner number 24  as he aims to run continuously for 24 hours along the 10k Santa Fun Run route. Shaun’s aim is to run over 100 miles in the time and cross the finish line with all the other Santa Fun runners.

News of Shaun’s challenge comes on the same day that KEMP Hospice reveal the route for the first ever Santa Cycle Ride in the district. Taking place on the same day as the Santa Fun Run, the 25-mile charity cycle challenge will see people dressed up as Santa and peddling through Kidderminster, Bewdley, Stourport, Hartlebury, Mustow Green, Chaddesley Corbett, Deansford, and then back into Kidderminster before crossing the finish line at Brinton’s Park.

Both the Santa Fun Run and the first ever Santa Cycle Ride will raise vital funding for KEMP Hospice, who provide care and support to people and families dealing with life-limiting illnesses or bereavement.

This year marks the 11th year of the run which has grown in support year on year. KEMP Event Fundraiser Shelley Stanley said this year was going to be a very memorable event; “With our Santa Fun Run just around the corner we are thrilled to announce the chosen route for the Wyre Forest’s first ever Santa Cycle Ride. The route, which will be just under 25 miles will see our Santa’s cycling past KEMP Hospice as they go across the Wyre Forest district. We would love to see supporters along the way cheering on our Santa’s this year, especially as the district has been missed off the Velo route. It’s a chance for people to come out and cheer along riders who will be pedaling and raising money as they go, so if the route goes past your house or business please show your support.

Whilst the cyclists ride through the Wyre Forest our traditional 10k runners will be pounding the streets of Kidderminster along with participants in our Family 5k run. This year we are thrilled to have Kidderminster & Stourport Athletic Club officially time our 10k race – another first for our Santa Fun Run. Helping our runners along the way will be the fantastic ‘Rock Choir’ singing some Christmas classics at Brinton Park and along the route on December 2nd. The day before the start though, of course, will be KEMP Hospice superhero Shaun Marshall starting his incredible 24 hours Santa Fun Run Challenge! Shaun is such a wonderful supporter of our work and he has personally raised thousands of pounds for us, every penny making a real difference to people’s lives. We’re blown away by his Super Santa challenge and his commitment to KEMP.”

Anyone wanting to register to take part in the 3 running events or the cycle ride, and to start raising their sponsorship money can register online at www.kemphospice.org.uk/santafunrun.

It costs £15 for the 10k run, £10 for the 5k while the 1k Santa Dash is free for children. Anyone who would like to take part in the Santa Cycle Ride will pay just £20 and receive a free Santa suit like the 10k and 5k runners. Every penny raised will go towards the work of KEMP Hospice in providing care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses and also to fund much needed bereavement support for families across the district.
